Same day mattress delivery: plan the collection and the carry

The mattress is ready, but getting it from the seller to the right address is another job. Same day mattress delivery can help when a shop collection, property handover or urgent replacement cannot wait. RGP Trans arranges transport for a mattress you already own or have purchased. The useful questions are how it fits, how it is protected and who will handle it at each end.

Give the packed dimensions, not only the bed size

Single, double and king-size labels are a starting point. A mattress courier needs its actual length, width, depth and weight, including packaging. Say whether it is rolled and boxed, flat or already unwrapped. Include any bed frame, base or headboard as separate items rather than assuming they are part of the same load.

Photos and the seller's product details help the team compare the load with available van sizes. Do not fold or bend a mattress to make it fit unless its manufacturer specifically allows that handling.

Protect the mattress before collection

Keep a new mattress in its original transport packaging where possible. For an unpacked mattress, use a suitable protective cover that encloses it and protects against dirt and moisture. Close the cover securely without damaging the fabric. Prepare the item at the agreed collection point and keep the route to the vehicle clear.

If collecting from a shop or warehouse, confirm the order is paid, released and ready. Provide the collection reference and a contact who can hand it over. Tell us about damaged packaging before loading so its condition and any additional protection can be discussed.

Be clear about stairs, doorways and the receiving room

Mattress collection and delivery involves more than unloading a van. Explain the floor level, stairs, lift dimensions, narrow turns and distance from parking at both addresses. A ground-floor handover and a carry to an upstairs bedroom require different arrangements.

If two people are needed, ask about our two-person delivery service before booking. State what help is available rather than expecting one driver to manage a bulky item alone. HSE's loading guidance supports agreeing the handling arrangements in advance. The large item courier guide covers further access considerations.

For a flat mattress collected from a retailer, check the packed size and whether the seller provides loading assistance. At delivery, agree whether the handover is at the property entrance or involves a carry upstairs. Include any bed base separately, because it changes the available space and the handling plan.

Confirm the time, price and delivery scope

Give the collection-ready time and the latest time someone can receive the mattress. Same-day availability depends on the route, suitable vehicle and required crew. For an urgent store collection, tell us the seller's closing time as well as your preferred arrival time.

The quote should reflect the addresses, packed size, crew, access and any waiting or extra items. Use the courier pricing guide to prepare your enquiry, then request a mattress delivery quote. Agree the handover point explicitly. Bed assembly, unpacking and removal of an old mattress are separate requirements to discuss; they should not be assumed within a standard transport booking.

Does the booking cover transport or a full bedroom service?

A quote for moving a mattress does not automatically include unpacking, bed assembly, carrying to a bedroom or removing the old mattress. Describe each task you want and confirm what can be provided. Give the access route while the mattress is still packed, because protective packaging can increase its size.

For a shop collection, confirm order release and loading assistance. For a private collection, tell the team the condition and proposed protective cover. Agree the receiving point and available help before dispatch. If an old mattress or bed base is also involved, declare it separately with its condition, dimensions and intended destination rather than assuming it fits the same transport arrangement.

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS

Common questions

Can you collect a mattress from a retailer?

A collection can be assessed if the retailer releases the order to your nominated courier. Confirm it is ready and provide the reference, opening hours and loading instructions.

Can you carry the mattress upstairs?

Describe the stairs and access before booking. Any room delivery and two-person handling must be assessed and agreed in the quote; do not assume they are included.

Can a used mattress be transported?

Tell the team its condition and provide photographs. It should be clean, dry and suitably covered. Acceptance and handling are confirmed before collection.

Can I include a bed base or headboard?

List it as a separate item with packed dimensions and weight. Bed bases, headboards and frames can materially change space and handling requirements. The team needs the complete load and access details before confirming a suitable vehicle and the quote.

Will you remove an old mattress?

Explain the request, the mattress condition and where it would need to go before booking. Removal or disposal is not automatically part of a mattress delivery. The team must assess and confirm any additional movement rather than assuming it can be taken away.

Can the mattress be folded to fit in the van?

Do not fold or bend it simply to make it fit. Follow the manufacturer's handling instructions and tell the team whether it is rolled and boxed or needs to travel flat. Vehicle selection should reflect suitable handling for the actual mattress.
