Joinery delivery to site: doors, cabinets and finished panels

Joinery delivery to site starts before a door or cabinet leaves the workshop. The vehicle needs to fit the packed goods, the finished surfaces need protection and the fitting team needs a realistic handover. Agree those details together so a straightforward collection does not become an access problem at the property.

Measure what will actually be loaded

A nominal door size does not include the corner protection, frame or other components travelling with it. Give the packed length, width and height, the quantity and total weight. Describe cabinets as assembled or flat packed, and identify loose shelves, handles and separate panels. Explain anything that must remain upright.

Send photographs where an awkward shape is difficult to describe. Long mouldings and large panels may require vehicle space that their weight alone would not suggest. The vehicle dimensions guide is a starting point; the team confirms the actual fit and handling for the booking.

Protect edges and finished faces

Prepare finished joinery with protection suitable for its surfaces and construction. Keep delicate edges, corners and projecting fittings from contacting other parts. Secure separate components so they can be counted and handled. Do not rely on a blanket placed loosely over an otherwise unprepared item.

Tell the courier about fragile finishes, glazing or components that cannot bear pressure. The sender should have the goods ready at the agreed point. Our joinery courier service assesses the packed load and any special handling before collection is confirmed.

Agree the route from vehicle to handover point

Give the site entrance and explain parking, loading space, stairs, lifts and narrow turns. A ground-floor doorway handover differs from carrying cabinetry to an upstairs room. Check who is available to receive and unload the goods, and whether suitable equipment is needed at the workshop or destination.

If one driver cannot safely complete the agreed handling, ask about a two-person delivery assessment. Room placement and installation must be discussed explicitly. A fitting team being present does not automatically confirm that it can provide the assistance the transport plan requires.

Book around workshop release and fitter availability

Confirm that the goods are complete and ready, and provide the collection reference. Give the final time the site can accept them alongside the earliest workshop collection time. If an installer has a fixed appointment, explain that deadline when requesting the movement rather than after a vehicle is dispatched.

For urgent components, dedicated same day transport may suit the work, subject to availability. Include every item, access restriction and handling task in the quote request. For a series of planned project deliveries, discuss the pattern with the team rather than treating every visit as a separate emergency.

Check the receiving route while the goods are still packed

Measure door openings, corners and lifts against the packed item, not just its finished dimensions. A protective frame can change whether a cabinet fits through a doorway. Confirm whether the handover ends at an entrance or includes an assessed carry, and say who will provide loading and unloading assistance.

If a component has a fragile finish or glazing, describe its protection and any orientation requirement. Take photographs of difficult access while there is time to discuss the plan. Tell the team if the load or site conditions change after quoting; additional crew, another vehicle or a different receiving point may need to be agreed before collection.

A FEW USEFUL ANSWERS

Common questions

Can you transport assembled cabinets?

Provide dimensions, weight, photographs and access details so the team can assess the vehicle and handling.

Does delivery include fitting?

Installation is not included automatically. Agree the exact handover and any additional tasks before booking.

Can doors travel upright?

State the required orientation and packaging when enquiring so a suitable load arrangement can be assessed.

Will the driver carry joinery upstairs?

Describe the floor level, stairs, lift and item dimensions before booking. An upstairs carry is not automatic. The team assesses access, crew and handling, then confirms the scope that can be provided for the actual consignment.

What if the cabinet is larger once packaged?

Supply the final packed measurements and tell the team about the change before collection. Packaging counts toward the load dimensions and weight. A quote based on bare product sizes may need to be reassessed for fit and handling.

Can I add loose shelves and fittings?

Yes, include every separate package in the enquiry and keep small fittings secured and labelled to the relevant item. Confirm the complete count at release. Extra components use space and need their own handover record rather than being assumed within a cabinet description.
